Storm Boy is getting the game treatment!

We don’t usually post off topic news here, but this one was too exciting not too! Colin Thiele’s classic Australian novel, Storm Boy, is being developed into an interactive experience called Storm Boy: The Game.

Based on the 1964 children’s book of the same name, Storm Boy: The Game takes place on the beaches of South Australia near the mouth of the Murray River. The game will follow the titular protagonist as he rescues orphaned pelican chicks, one of whom later becomes the child’s pet and faithful companion, Mr. Percival.

The game will feature a beautifully illustrated retelling of the book that lets you play out the narrative and explore the world in new ways.

Experience an interactive retelling of the classic tale by taking control of both Storm Boy and Mr. Percival in key moments, such as when the pair rescued stranded sailors during a storm. Relive their friendship and enjoy seaside activities across a wide assortment of fun and relaxing mini-games, including sand drawing, sailing, cockle hunting, playing fetch, sand surfing, pelican feeding, and more.

For us, the coolest part of this news is that players will also be able to break out of the story and actually fly around the Coorong, taking in the beautiful landscapes and coastline. This looks to be a beautiful and engaging way of letting people all over the world explore our landscapes.

“Storm Boy is a classic piece of literature in Australia, and we’re proud to adapt it for a new medium. We hope players of all ages will enjoy this story, whether it’s for the first time or through a new lens, and can’t wait to share it with the world when we release it for consoles, PC, and mobile devices later this year.”

Storm Boy: The Game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 as well as mobile devices, PC and Mac.
